What Is The Best Way To Heal My Post-Workout Soreness?

This is a common issue that everyone experiences! What Is The Best Way To Heal My Post-Workout Soreness?

Dear Becky,

I recently started a new strength training routine that has me lifting weights 3 times per week. I am so sore for 2-3 days after! Help! Is this OK?

Thanks,

Rita

This is a common issue that everyone experiences! Even me! When I change my workout routine and / or try something new I feel it the next day! Sometimes for 2-3 days!

Yes it is ok that you are sore! Your body is telling you that you worked your muscles and that they need time to rest and recover! This soreness should not be excruciating, but rather a tolerable discomfort. Try to take a nice walk, a hot bath and gently massage the trained areas to help work the soreness out of your muscles. This should decrease your discomfort.

In order to avoid a plateau in your training, I always suggest you change up the type of workouts you are doing and the exercises. This will ensure you continue to get stronger and progress over the course of time.

It will also result in soreness from time to time no matter how many years you have been training!
